Bat safety

Observe. Don’t handle.

Most encounters are peaceful. A little distance protects both people and bats.

Found a bat indoors?

Keep people and pets away. Avoid direct contact. Consult wildlife and public-health guidance appropriate to your location.

Possible contact?

Do not release or discard the animal before getting professional advice when contact may have occurred. Contact a healthcare professional or public-health authority promptly.

Bat outdoors?

Give it space. Never disturb roosts, maternity colonies, hibernating bats, or cave closures.
